Meet The Coaches

Gloria Maden, BEM

Head Coach / President

Having hung up my netball trainers more than 25 years ago, after playing from a young age, I found my love of netball again nearly 3 years ago when I joined Civil Service. I spent the first 2 years as a player, but was then asked if I would be interested in coaching a junior team for the 2019-20 season - I’m glad I did. I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing my knowledge and passion for netball with my Lynx 3 team, and they have made me proud to be their coach week-in and week-out!

I am also part of the club committee and have recently taken on the role of treasurer. Civil Service is a fantastic club and I look forward to seeing it go from strength-to-strength.

I am proud in being a founder member of the Civil Service Netball Club and have played, umpired and coached for the Club over many years. I was a County player for Suffolk at the beginning and later became the Suffolk U14 coach and more recently a talent identifier for England Netball. The junior section of the club was formed by me and has been developed of the years. There have been many great moments, but receiving a letter from the Cabinet Office in 2012 telling me that I was among the Queen's Birthday Honours List for a British Empire Medal (BEM) has to be the highlight. Tea at the Palace garden party was the icing on the cake!!

Kim Weeks

Coach

I've been connected with the Civil Service Netball Club for the last 9 years. I've enjoyed watching my daughter play for the club since primary school and progress into the senior section playing for the Panthers. My daughter also coached Lynx 4 last season but is now off to University. I really wanted to carry on the contact with the club and was asked if I'd become the coach for Lynx 5. I am very much looking forward to my role and working with them this coming season. I'll be attending the level 1 Coaching Course in September.

Sam Wardley

Coach

I studied BA (Hons) Physical Education with QTS at the University of Brighton. I am currently a full-time PE teacher in a secondary school in Suffolk. I have a strong background in netball and love of sport. Moreover, I joined Civil Service via school/club links in which I was selected for the senior teams. In doing so I was introduced to the England Performance Pathway, including S&C - Satellite and County Academies. Unfortunately, I didn't progress to the next level of the pathway, the Regional Academy due to height limitations. In terms of umpiring I have successfully passed the Beginner Umpiring Award and have recently been booked onto a C Award Umpire Course. I will be attending a level 1 netball UKCC Coaching Course at the end of this month for continuing professional development (CPD). As a result, I will be coaching CS Bobcats' this season and playing for CS Panthers.

Rachel Blackwood

Coach

I'm currently in my 2nd year of University studying Graphic Design at UCS. I've been with Civil Service almost 15 years, playing, umpiring and coaching. In 2007 I took my level 1 coaches qualification and started to coach the junior section. I then went onto coaching Hi 5's and a senior team. In 2014, I started coaching with the Suffolk Academies as a Development Assistant Coach, I then moved onto County and Satellite Assistant Coach. I'm now in my 3rd year and have gained my level 2 coaches qualification. I look forward to coaching CS Tigers this season and playing for CS Pumas.

Laura Payne

Coach

I have been a proud member of the Civil Service Netball Club for the past 25 years since joining the club as a 9 year old. In my younger years I represented the County at U12, 14 and 16 age groups . I then went on to become a beginner umpire. After having my 2 daughters, I found it difficult to find the time to support the club outside of playing and have only recently got more involved since my daughter has started playing. I look after the CAPS for the club and am an active member of the committee. I am also in the process of gaining my level 1 coaching qualification and this season I will be coaching Lynx 2 and 3 as well as playing for Pumas.
